Mission

The mission of the Dougherty County School System is to provide a safe, supportive, nurturing and cultivating environment where students can learn and achieve academically beyond all expectations. The mission further embraces the goal of ensuring that every student views learning as a lifelong opportunity which will prepare them educationally for a global society.

Strategic Goals

  • Increase graduation rate by 5%
  • Increase student achievement/promotion rates by 5%
  • Increase Georgia High School Graduation Test (GHSGT) pass rate by 5%
  • Increase placement rates following graduation (Current data available only for students enrolled in Georgia public colleges)
  • Identify and track college, military and work placement
  • Decrease drop-out rate by 2%
  • Dropout rate for grades 1-8 should be less than 2%
  • Dropout rate for grades 9-12 to be less than 3%
  • 95% of students leaving DCSS will receive an official transcript
  • Track transcripts to improve dropout and graduation rates
  • Increase college preparatory for ACT and SAT scores
  • Increase student participation with early planning and by adding early level classes for PSAT, ACT and SAT preparation
  • Hire and retrain competent teachers
  • Support competitive salaries for teachers

  • Keep partners informed of successes
  • 90% of students utilizing the DCSS transportation system will be logged into the database by March 2011 FTE count
  • Decrease teacher absenteeism by 10% annually/decrease absenteeism by 2.5% quarterly
  • Increase parental involvement and support as noted by school data reports
  • Increase the number of re-enrolled students by 3%
  • Decrease tribunal hearings by 10%
  • 95% of students will be present on the first day of class
  • Decrease TAN borrowing 10% annually
  • 50% of bids to be local (1,600 bids)/define local as 16-county catchment area of 100 miles, etc.

Race to the Top Funding

It is our goal to support the school improvement plan under the transformation model as a means to assist this school system in reaching all of its goals in meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and the successful passing of all state assessments.

Vision with Other Agencies for Public Education

We will work collaboratively with the Georgia Department of Education, Georgia School Boards Association, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Georgia Association of Superintendents, Georgia Association of Educational Leaders, and the Professional Standards Commission, as well as local colleges and universities that serve as neighboring partners to cultivate and nurture the service of education for our children and youth.
