Radium Springs Middle Magnet
School of the Arts is a dedicated fine arts middle magnet school for
students in grades six through eight who want a wider range of arts
opportunities integrated into their school experience. RSMMSA provides a
challenging academic program in the core areas of language arts, reading,
math, science, and social studies. The faculty and staff are dedicated to
providing students with a strong art and academic program to stimulate
excellence in artistry and intellectual endeavors.
The specialized courses listed below are offered at RSMMSA.Visual Arts
- The visual arts program provides students with the opportunity to learn
about art and artists as well as creating their own works of art. Students
receive instruction in two dimensional processes, including drawing,
painting, design, and printmaking. Students build on the concepts learned to
create three dimensional works that will investigate techniques and concepts
of their own style and that of famous artist. Students participate in
various art competitions throughout the year.
Photography - The photography program gives students an
opportunity to capture, develop and publish pictures of school events
performances and productions.
Chorus - The Choral program offers instruction in general
music, music theory, vocal techniques, and fundamental piano skills.
Students learn to sing a varied repertoire of music. Performances are held
for winter and spring concerts, community events, and a spring musical.
Dance - The dance program aims to develop the students'
appreciation of dance as an art form and to expose the student to a full
range of dance experiences. Students focus on ballet/pointe, modern, jazz,
and strength and conditioning work. Students participate in two school
concerts yearly, community events, and spring musical.
Theatre Arts - The theatre arts program will produce
responsible, literate and appreciators of the performing arts, with emphasis
of theatre crafts and stage presence. The program is designed to offer
exceptional opportunities to students with a strong interest in performing
and technical theatre support.
Band - The band program is designed for students who are interested
in learning a wind or percussion instrument. Beginning students are taught
basic skills in instrumental technique and music reading. Students expand
their skills in Band II and III. Students perform in two concerts yearly,
community events, and spring musical. Selected students are nominated to
participate in honor bands and ensemble festivals.
Orchestra - The orchestra program offers instruction in general
music, music history, music theory and instrumental techniques. Students
play on string orchestral instruments. Orchestra provides a positive and
nurturing learning environment where students can develop musical and
technical skills. Students perform at winter and spring concerts, community
events, and a spring musical.
Piano - Students may enroll in beginner, intermediate, and
advanced piano. Courses are taught during the extended learning morning
period. Students may also enroll in after school piano class.
