forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn.” Benjamin Franklin
The Dougherty County Elementary Physical Education
Curriculum is based on the Quality Core Curriculum (QCC) Objectives for Health
and Physical Education.
Kindergarten
All Kindergarten students are scheduled
for 30 minute physical education classes twice a week.
Classroom
rules and safety practices (self-management), general/personal space, following
directions, transfer weight in various levels, pathways, directions, shares
equipment with others.
Locomotor
movement (walking, running, hopping, skipping, galloping, leaping). Nonlocomotor movement (bending, twisting, stretching,
swaying, rising, collapsing).
Manipulative
skills of throwing, kicking, catching and striking.
Fitness
activities that address health related concepts (flexibility, body composition,
cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance) are integrated into
the lessons when appropriate.
Rhythmic
movements, timing, following a beat.
First Grade
All First Grade students are scheduled
for 30 minutes physical education classes daily.
Classroom

others takes turns, following directions, spatial awareness, changing
directions, levels, pathways in
general/personal space, individuals, groups when moving over, under, alongside,
behind, leading and following.
Improving locomotor

twisting, stretching, swaying, rising, collapsing).
Manipulative
skills of throwing, kicking, catching and striking.
Physical Best
Test, identify physiological signs of physical activity (heart rate and
breathing), knowledge of health related fitness concepts. These concepts are integrated into lessons where
appropriate and become increasingly complex with each grade level. Fitness activities.
Rhythmic
movements, and spatial compositions.
Second Grade
All Second Grade students are scheduled
for 30 minutes physical education classes daily.
Classroom
rules and safety practices (self-management), exhibit appropriate behavior when
participating with others.
Mature locomotor
and nonlocomotor skills, appropriate equipment usage, applies concept of weight
transfer in a variety of ways.
Improving manipulative
skills (kicking, dribbling (hand/feet), catching, striking, throwing
(under/over hand). Select and use
appropriate equipment for various activities.
Perform simple
rhythmic and spatial compositions, design and perform simple sequences that
focus on changes in directions, levels, pathways. Knowledge of the body’s
relationship to objects, individuals, and others-spatial relationships.
Perform simple
stunts, tumbling and balancing.
Physical Best
Test, identify changes in the body during and as a result of vigorous activity,
as well as fitness activities.
Third Grade
All Third Grade students are scheduled
for 30 minutes physical education classes daily.
Classroom
rules and safety practices (self-management), demonstrate responsible personal
and social behavior in a physical setting, follows activity specific rules,
works alone, and with a partner or group.

and/or nonlocomotor skills with our without equipment.
Improving and
refining manipulative skills (catching, striking, throwing, punting, dribbling).
Sequential
stunts, tumbling, and balancing patterns.
Create and
perform rhythmic activities.
Physical Best
Test (pre/post test) fitness activities, aerobic appropriate for age group,
identify one activity relating to each of the health related fitness
components.
Fourth Grade
All Fourth Grade students are scheduled
for 30 minutes physical education classes daily.
Classroom
rules and safety practices (self-management), demonstrate responsible personal
and social behavior in physical settings, follows activity-specific rules.
Ability
to combine locomotor and nonlocomotor skills, into repetitive patterns with or
without equipment.
Improving manipulative
skills (kicking, dribbling (hand/feet), catching, striking, throwing
(under/over hand). Select and use
appropriate equipment for various activities.
Beginning
skills of a few specialized movement forms: sports, gymnastics, dance and
fitness activities, improves performance in selected and fundamental skills.
Physical Best
Test, (pre/post test), fitness activities, interprets results of fitness test.
Fifth Grade
All Fifth Grade students are scheduled
for 30 minutes physical education classes daily.
Classroom
rules and safety practices (self-management), demonstrate responsible personal
and social behavior in physical settings, follows activity-specific rules.
Performance
of all basic locomotor and nonlocomotor skills, manipulative, transfer of
weight, spatial awareness and relationships.
Create complex
rhythmic and aerobic activities, more advanced specialized skills, using sports
skills, maintaining static/dynamic balance, performing gymnastics, transfer and
movement skills, recognize similarities and differences between skills and
transfers them from one to the other.
Physical Best
