Accelerated Reader

The Accelerated Reader program is an independent reading program designed to help students with their reading comprehension skills.  Students take a STAR test to determine their reading level and then they check out a book in that level.  Students then read the book, take a computerized test, and check their results.  Students are encouraged to maintain an 80% average or higher and to read at least 35 books in grades 1-2 or 80 points in grades 3-5 for the school year.  This is a challenging reading program and Lincoln students do a great job!

Each year there is a school wide theme.  For the 2010-2011 school year our theme is " Wild About Reading."  Our AR Celebration Kick-off will be announced soon. This will be a fun program to get students excited about reading!

In the 2001- 2002 school year we started an award in honor of a fifth grade student who had read more books than any other student at Lincoln.  The award was named the Brian Pinto Award after the first winner.  This year, John Burnam, a fifth grader in Mrs. Bergozza's class, won the award.  John passed 254 quizzes with 94.7% accuracy.  That achievement is equivalent to reading 6,204,830 words!  Great job, John!

The total number of points earned on AR this year was 905.5  points with an average score of 87.6%. Way to go Lincoln students!
